Project: Star Wars ATM6
Working as a freelance 3D artist, California Theaming tasked me to design and engineer a 3D model for the head and neck of the ATM6 for the movie premiere 'Star Wars: the Last Jedi' in Hollywood, CA. The ATM6 is a life size sculpture measuring 37' tall by 42' long.
With very limited time, I delivered the detailed 3D model, build instruction drawings, and all the parts ready for CNC and 3D printing. The challenge was not only how to design the details to look alive, but how to help the fabrication team to easily assemble the ATM6 head.
While the rest of team were building a truss structure for the full body, I designed a plywood center structure to attach the truss. The parts were layered high dense 4'x8' foam used for CNC. The detail guns were built from PVC piping and 3D print parts.
I was honored to be a part of the design and build team and visit the ATM6 on site.
